There are 4 main characters:

Mark:
a holistic therapist who runs a transgender support group. He believes that it is possible for every person to live an extraordinary life. He doesn't know much about the internet or the world wide web, but he has used it for research on herbal medicine.

April: 
a transgender woman who has given up on finding a meaningful relationship. She becomes empowered by the web because she feels as if it is the only place that people see her as a real woman. She feels that people ridicule her for being a woman in the real world.

Denise: 
a suburban housewife with marital issues, she goes online to get back at her husband and explore her sensual side. When she finds out he has been cross dressing, she goes to the gender identity center to try to salvage their marriage.

Carl: 
a single male who travels the country giving motivational seminars. He's a bit lazy and drawn to the web because it's become the best way to meet women as he travels the country. He's hoping to find his soul mate, get off the road and settle down.
